Snoop Shop for Creative Sewing Ideas
I love to ‘Snoop Shop’. That means that I ‘flit’ through the stores looking for creative construction and embellishment ideas. Armed with my iphone, snapping photos makes it easy to record the ideas with photos. Let’s take a peek at some of my recent ‘finds’ – many of which were at our local Goodwill Store!
This is a 2 thread stitch on a serger that requires the 2 thread adapter on the Upper Looper. You can learn more How-Tos from my friend, Gail Patrice in her You-Tube video HERE.
Note also the flatlocking along the princess seamlines.
Years ago, Diane Ericson got me hooked on stenciling. I have a great collection of stencils and I even know right where they all are! I loved the ‘feel’ of the work on this top at Goodwill. However, I’d reverse the larger stencil, placing it on the right shoulder instead of the left. Why? Because your attention generally always goes to the right shoulder (left as you are looking at a person) – we read left to right! I would also carry some of the work to the garment back side.
PRINT BINDING AND HEM TRIM
I loved the floral trim on this polka dot short tunic top – again found at the Goodwill.
SURPLICE HI-LOW SKIRT
I really, really want to make one of these skirts! Simple, simple! Watch for it in an upcoming blog post
I agree that any extra effort placed around the neckline of a garment multiplies it’s impact, as it draws interest to YOU, your face. Note this small insert piece – even under a tab front neckline closure. Simple and Easy.
RUCHING DOWN A SLEEVE UPPER EDGE
This is SO So easy. Just zigzag 1/8″ braided elastic really really tight and zig zag it in the seam allowance as taught in my DVD: Stretching Your Knit Sewing KnowHow , OR my pattern, Sensational Shirring.
THE ULTIMATE IN LABOR-INTENSE TRIM
To close, some things are just worth buying – and I’d put this top in that category. to do all of these strips around a neckline would be a HUGE job!
Sleep keeps overtaking me – I’m still recovering from the visit of grandchildren last week! Such joy = watch for pictures on my Facebook Page.
Have fun SNOOP SHOPPING!
